Cathérine Hug (*1976 in Basel, Switzerland) studied Computer Science, Media Science and Art History at the Chair of Stanislaus von Moos at the University of Zurich (Switzerland). From 2000 until 2007 she was curatorial assistant at the Kunsthaus Zurich, where she worked closely with Bice Curiger and Tobia Bezzola. From 2005 until 2008 she was Assistant Art Unlimited at the Art Basel. As free-lance curator she organized among others Unloaded (Oberschan 2002-03) with Giovanni Carmine; In The Alps with Tobia Bezzola (Kunsthaus Zurich, 2006); and Carola Giedion-Welcker and Modernism (Kunsthaus Zurich, 2007). Since 2008 she is curator at the Kunsthalle Wien, where she curated among others Thomas Ruff: Surfaces, Depths (2009), 1989. End of History or Beginning of the Future? Comments on a Paradigm Shift (2009-10) with Gerald Matt, Street And Studio. From Basquiat to Séripop (2010) with Thomas Mießgang, Space. About A Dream as well as Loris Gréaud. Cellar Door (both in 2011). Together with Rita Vitorelli (artist and Publisher of Spike Art Quarterly) she organizes for the 3rd time the ZINE*FAIR – the Independent Publishers and Artzine Fair Vienna (Sept. 22-23, 2012). Together with the author Clemens Berger and the artist Andreas Duscha she organizes the talk series Kleinodien – Anomalous Talks in Vienna. Holder of the Fund for Arts Research, American Center Foundation, New York 2007. Associate Member of the Global Board of Contemporary Art (Brussels) since 2011, and vice-president of the Alumni Art History UZH (University of Zurich) since 2012. As freelance critic she regularly writes for Bad Day Magazine (Toronto).
