This year VIENNAFAIR had two wonderful curated projects: VIENNA Duet (Georgia and Poland) and “DIYALOG”: New Energies. In this post we would like to introduce you to dedicated curators and thank our partners – the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, the Polish Institute in Vienna, and OMV – for their kind support.

Gaisha Madanova, curator of the special project “DIYALOG”: New Energies.
Gaisha is an independent artist, curator, and art critic from Almaty, Kazakhstan. She curated Video[ARTiFACT], 2012 – an educational project for young artists in contemporary art with Prof. Klaus vom Bruch. Personal exhibitions: 2012: Documentation of Space, Hamburg University, Germany; Documentation of Space; Alliance Française d’Almaty, (French Alliance Almaty), Kazakhstan. 2009: Instinct of the present, Goethe – Institute Almaty, Kazakhstan .

Irena Popiashvili, curator of the exhibition VIENNA Duet Georgia: “Our Caucasus i. e. Chveni Kavkasioni”.
Irena is an independent curator dividing her time between Tbilisi, Georgia and New York, USA. Currently she is a consultant at the Free University in Tbilisi and runs a public art space – Popiashvili Gvaberidze Window Project in Tbilisi, Georgia. Previously a founder and co-owner of Newman Popiashvili Gallery in New York (2005-2012), she served as a director of the State Academy of Arts in Tbilisi (March-November 2012).

Klara Czerniewska, curator of the exhibition VIENNA Duet: “Who Are You or The Polish School of Happiness”
Klara studied art history at the University of Warsaw and Københavns Universitet. In cooperation with design curator Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka, she organized several design exhibitions (most recently Common Roots: Design Map of Central Europe for the Design Museum Holon in Israel, 2012; Who Are You?, first presented at Łódź Design Festival, 2012, and Materia Prima – Design and Landscape at the Munkeruphus in Denmark, 2013). Klara works as an art and design critic and journalist. Her texts have been published in cultural, lifestyle, and professional magazines.
