VIENNA ART WEEK, now in its ninth edition, has become an annual fixed event in Vienna’s cultural calendar. Once again, this year’s art festival – initiated by the Dorotheum and hosted by Art Cluster Vienna – has managed to encourage and foster cooperation between global and Austrian art world players.

Announcing a vibrant list of more than 90 artists from 31 countries, Juliana Engberg, the artistic director of the 19th Biennale of Sydney commented at an event held at the Sydney Opera House: “At its heart, the 19th Biennale of Sydney celebrates the power of artistic imagination. You Imagine What You Desire is an optimistic biennale that presents an exploration of the world and contemporary aesthetic experience through the inventions and desires of well-known artists as well as many who are exhibiting in Sydney for the first time.”

miart is a fair in which modern and contemporary art communicate constant references with explicit echoes; it affords a situation to grasp links between the past and present. miart will emphasize this aspect, aspiring to work on the possibility of testing institutional strategies that differ from existing models. The aim is to set out along a path in which miart plays an active role in modern and contemporary production throughout the entire year, not just during the days of the art fair.

Each year at the Gallery Weekend Berlin, the city becomes a hotspot for art fans and collectors. For two days and nights more than 50 galleries throughout Berlin open their doors. Alongside well-known galleries many new and experimental galleries participate in the event. The presented artists are well selected, all focusing on contemporary art.

New York is New York and has room for two major shows. After Armory in March there’s the exported to London Frieze Art Fair. The exhibits range from very youthful to very expensive.

Juan A. Gaitán, curator of the 8th Berlin Biennale, has invited Tarek Atoui, Natasha Ginwala, Mariana Munguía, Olaf Nicolai, and Danh Vo to collaborate with him as core members and advisors in his artistic team. The graphic design and art direction of the 8th Berlin Biennale will be developed together with the design office Zak Group.
