2016

Too much is written about art? We don’t think so!

Here is what viennacontemporary has to offer for those who love to read up on art: An expanded Media Zone to browse the newest art and culture magazines, special talks on developments in Baltic and Nordic art scene (hosted by arterritory.com and Collector’s Agenda), and a book store hosted by Verlag für moderne Kunst!

viennacontemporary is happy to announce that there will be an #artbookstore,  presented by Verlag für moderne Kunst, at the fair. Verlag für moderne Kunst is one of the top publishers in the realm of contemporary art, but their program also includes architecture, design, photography, theatre, film, literature, and all affiliations in between. Books by Verlag für moderne Kunst articulate topical discourses, they respond to controversial societal and artistic issues and phenomena of today. Parallel to the presentation of established positions, the publishing house also works with artists at the beginning of their career. Furthermore, they offer select and limited art editions in cooperation with  Collector’s Agenda. There will be a permanent installation by Manfred Grübl at the book store.

The artbookstore will also host a series of Artist Salons with book signings  durig viennacontemporary, including Franz Wojda and Kay Walkowiak (21.09.); Wolfgang Lehrner, Aldo Giannotti and Sofie Thorsen (22.09.); Sibylle Omlin, Asgar Gabriel and Alfredo Barsuglia (23.09), Daniel Domig, Marusa Sagadin and Daniel de Koekkoek (24.09.); Manuel Gorkiewicz and Christian Egger (25.09.). Please check the upcomming daily program for details.

For the upcoming edition of our fair, viennacontemporary renewed the partnership with Artsy as our official online partner! As galleries, collectors, and art lovers make their way to Vienna this fall, Artsy will host the official online catalogue of viennacontemporary on Artsy.net and the Artsy app. Visitors to Artsy can access fair programming and inquire on artworks for sale starting September 15.

For those attending the fair, download the Artsy app for iPhone & iPad as your guide. With a tap, browse exhibiting galleries, make sales inquiries, and follow artists to receive future updates; you may also sign up to be notified when Artsy’s coverage of viennacontemporary goes live.

For German-speaking readers, we recommend to sample Austrian newspaper Die Presse and their extensive reporting on art and culture – maybe at their Lounge during viennacontemporary! This is what they have to say about themselves:

Was wir gern machen, machen wir gut. Dafür wurden wir bereits zum 3. Mal in Folge von der Zeitschrift „Der Österreichische Journalist“ zur „Redaktion des Jahres“ gewählt. Holen Sie sich jetzt die „Die Presse“ 3 Wochen gratis und unverbindlich. Das Testabo endet danach automatisch. Hier geht’s zur Bestellung!

Nordic Notes: On Stockholm’s expanding art scene
Collectors Agenda in conversation with Erik Nordenhake, gallerist, Stockholm, SE
Saturday, 24 September 2016 | 4:00–5:00 pm

The Nordic scene for contemporary art is expanding, underpinned by a growing collector scene and the arrival of new, promising emerging artists to the market. Yet what’s happening in the region tends to stay in the region. Relatively few artists from Scandinavia have so far been able to obtain international recognition. Erik Nordenhake, young gallerist in Stockholm, believes it’s about time for changing that, and for Sweden’s art sector to go more international. Collectors Agenda will talk with him about how he sees Stockholm’s art scene developing, the young generation of collectors, and how they find access to contemporary art.
